The assisting engines at Nancha always faced south, so when one was required at the front of a northbound train it would always be coupled inside the train engine. QJ 210 worked a coal train from Nancha towards the summit on 6 April 1988, assisted by QJ 6892 at the front and QJ 1987 at the back.
