A 12 coach passenger was easy work for a big 2-10-2 on the gently graded Changchun - Jilin line. Xinzhan based QJs had recently taken over passenger workings between Changchun and their home town from the JS 2-8-2s that had themselves replaced the RM Pacifics a few years earlier. The 1980s were a time of change on China's railways and it wouldn't be very long before the QJs were replaced by diesels.
QJ.2205 eased up the last section of the gentle climb between Tumenling and the summit tunnel with an unidentified Changchun - Tumen passenger on 2 April 1988.
