Every morning we'd go out in the dark in the hope that there might be a train of empties from Xuanmeichang at first light. Occasionally there was and occasionally there was just about enough light in the eastern sky to produce a passable silhouette. On the morning of 7 December 2019, we just missed a train going up at 08:15, way too early, but there was another one down there. It didn't leave until almost 08:30, by which time the sky was starting to colour up.
JS.8197 propelled its empties up the hill from Xuanmeichang towards Kengkouzhan, producing an unexpected but very welcome cascade of sparks as it did so.
