Coal was big business in the north east of China until quite recently and the mining centres of Hegang and Shuangyashan produced a seemingly endless procession of loaded coal trains to feed the furnaces of Harbin and beyond. QJ 3086 worked a loaded train up the gentle gradients east of Songqing, on the line towards Suihua and Harbin, on 28 February 1989.
