QJ 1357 and QJ 2950 pulled away from Wushaoling with a southbound freight after crossing a northbound in the loop there on 1 January 1990. Wushaoling was the highest station in China, around 9,500 feet above sea level, just a few feet short of the highest point on the Chinese rail system, a short distance to the south. By the time the back of the train had passed, the locos would already be over the summit and heading downhill towards Dachaigou, where the train would be handed over to a Lanzhou based QJ.
Wushaoling lost its claim to being the highest station in the summer of 2006 when the Qinghai - Tibet Railway opened, all bar the first few km of the new line being over 10,000 feet above sea level. Wushaoling and the line over the summit closed a few months later, nothing to do with the Qinghai - Tibet Railway but due to the opening of a base tunnel under the pass.
