QJ 170 passed Changchun East Junction with a very mixed northbound freight on the morning of 12 March 1989. At the time Changchun was still a very steamy place with diesels on long-distance passengers and steam working absolutely everything else. It wouldn't last. Less than two years later diesels had deprived steam of almost all main line work and the early QJs had been dispatched to the scrapper.
