Baotou Steelworks was a good place to go if you wanted some brown dust. In parts of the works every surface seemed to be coated in the stuff, including the locomotives. ET7 5333 waited for its turn to propel a ladle under the furnaces on 6 January 1990.
The ET7 Class was a standard Polish industrial 0-8-0T design built by Fablok (Chrzanow) in Poland from 1950 and known as the TKp type in its home country. Several of Baotou's locos had the rods removed from the rear set of wheels, making them 0-6-2Ts. This seemed to coincide with the withdrawal of the XK13 0-6-0Ts and may have been to allow the larger tanks to take over their duties.
