QJ 6230 was a regular performer over Jingpeng Pass for many years but by the turn of the century it seemed to have trouble steaming. Two new engines arrived on the line during 2003 so I wasn't surprised not to see 6230 in September. The big surprise was that I had actually seen most of it. QJ 6230 had been sent to Mudanjiang works where it had received the boiler from QJ 7030, a loco from the recently dieselised Shuangyashan mining line. The resulting engine received the number QJ 7030 and remained active on the line until the very end of steam operation in late 2005.
QJ7030 led QJ 7002 over Brickworks Viaduct with an eastbound freight on 5 September 2003.
