As the fog started to lift and break, ghostly shapes would appear for an instant before disappearing again into one of the many clouds of drifting steam. At the far end of the depot, there was something different that attracted our attention. An indistinct profile, smaller and more shapely than the hulking great QJs all around. As we approached, a shaft of sunlight broke through, briefly illuminating the scene with ethereal light. An SL Pacific stood before us, silhouetted against a wild sky and swirling steam. Harbin was a freight depot so finding a Pacific was a very pleasant surprise.
