QJ 2924 and QJ 6545 approached Mengjiawan with a Zhongwei - Gantang freight shortly after sunrise on 20 January 1992. Much of the load appears to consist of the ubiquitous Beijing Jeeps, China's answer to the Land Rover and essential transport at the time in the less developed regions of the west, where decent roads were few and far between. This location was no exception, accessible only by rail or a long, slow, tedious drive from Zhongwei along a badly rutted dirt track. Today you can take the multi-lane freeway to an exit less than a mile from this location.
