QJ 6065, based at Hohhot, was serviced at Baotou Xi Depot on the morning of 7 January 1994 in the company of QJ 6259 and QJ 6300. By this time the depot was one of the few left in China where it was still possible to fill the frame with multiple steam locos. It wouldn't remain that way for long, diesels had already displaced steam from long-distance passengers around Baotou and would soon oust the QJs from most of their freight work as well.
