La Habana Province covers the area surrounding Cuba's capital city in the west of the island. It's relatively hilly country compared to central and eastern parts of the island and had fewer sugar mills but there were some interesting operations with both standard and narrow gauge lines.
La Habana province survived the re-organisation of 1976 largely unchanged. The old provincial structure was the basis of the mill numbering system and was widely understood in the industry and in railway enthusiast circles. It is used here for convenience. Matanzas mills were numbered in the 2xx series.
