Although railcars took over all stopping and some fast passengers on the Karlovy Vary to Kadan line in the last years before electrification, a number of fast trains remained loco hauled to the end. For much of 2003 and 2004 Chomutov depot kept a couple of class 749 diesels in very smart condition for these workings. An immaculate 749.039 rolled through Perstejn, deep in the Ohre valley, during a brief sunny interval on the morning of 25th July 2003. The train was R811, the 07:00 from Cheb to Kolin.
