The Karlovy Vary to Kadan line in the north west of the Czech Republic saw heavy freight traffic in the early years of the century, unusual for a non-electrified main line in the Czech Republic. Electrification work began 2004, plugging a significant gap in the country's electrified network.
Pairs of class 751 diesels were the usual power for freight trains on the route. 751.210 and 751.209 descended the bank from Hajek into the Ohre river valley at Vojkovice with an eastbound bound block coal train on 24th July 2003.
