BLS Cargo’s 485.001 & 485.009 rounded the curve at Varenzo, south of Ambri-Piotta, with a northbound intermodal on the afternoon of 11 August 2016.
On my August 2016 visit, BLS Cargo operated fewer trains over the Gotthard than either SBB or DB but managed to use locos of more classes to do so. Even if you count BLS Class Re486 and the Class 186s hired from Railpool as being the same and discount the BLS Re465s hired to Railcare, there were still three different classes in use.
