11328 & 11679 were photographed at Varenzo, between Ambri-Piotta and Rodi-Fiesso, with a lightly loaded southbound intermodal on 11 August 2016. The leading loco also carried its new computerised number, 420.328-7 on both the nose and side.
The classic combination of an Re4/4II double heading with an Re6/6, known as an Re10/10, was the most common power for SBB worked freights over the Gotthard during my visit. Both classes have now served SBB for over 40 years with the earliest Re4/4IIs now approaching 50 years in traffic.
