By late November 2004 most workings over Jingpeng Pass had gone over to diesel traction, leaving very few trains steam hauled. There was little point hanging around on the Pass when nothing was due so we ventured further afield to intercept westbound trains between Daban and Linxi and chase them back to the summit.
QJ 6998 caught the light as it rounded the curve west of Wenduheshuo with a train of empty coal wagons on 30 November 2004.
