The traditional international passenger train is under threat from the spread of high speed sanitised plastic units plying very restricted routes and often completely divorced from the timetables and fare structures of the normal railway. This picture shows train EC91, the 07:00 Brussel Zuid - Brig, approaching Kandersteg behind 460 012 on 24 May 2007, 16 days before it was due to finish. From that date the only international passengers over the Lötschberg would be the Cisalpinos to Italy.
