56139 worked the 05:20 Divrigi - Erzincan mixed eastwards along the Euphrates Valley near Alp on 17 April 1984.
The 56001 class design dates from the late 1930s and is closely related to standard German designs of the time. It may look similar to the German Class 50 but is a significantly bigger engine with larger drivers, cylinders and grate area and an axleload of 18.5 tons. A total of 183 were built between 1937 and 1949 by German, British and Czech builders but 17 were diverted to Bulgaria during WWII and never got to Turkey. Two more were built in Turkey in 1961. 56139 was one of 25 built by CKD in 1949.
