The fourth of January 2011 was a special day. The sun was due to rise partially eclipsed over much of northern and western Europe, including the UK. I thought it might be nice to try and get the crescent sun in a railway photo and set out for Manor Farm bridge near Cholsey in the dark. It was a beautiful, cold, clear, starlit, winter's night and things were looking promising.
As it began to get light the clouds appeared from nowhere, ensuring that the sun wasn't visible except for one very brief period when there were no trains around. This picture shows the 06:20 Weston-super-Mare to Paddington speeding past my location on its way to London, not the shot I'd hoped for but quite atmospheric nonetheless.
