The overnight York to Shrewsbury train was renowned for producing a wide variety of traction including the occasional Deltic. On the evening of 4 November 1981, 40 019 was entrusted with the train, seen here waiting to leave York.
This type of train, principally conveying mail and parcels but also providing a couple of coaches for passengers was common at one time but has long since been consigned into history.
